What is ChemWhiz?
ChemWhiz is an AI-powered platform for learning general chemistry, built by a chemistry PhD who taught college chemistry for over a decade. It covers the full general chemistry curriculum: 30 topics, 205 learning objectives, and 2,400+ worked examples and practice problems, plus an interactive periodic table, reference tables, study guides, and free calculators. You learn by doing: read the lesson, follow worked examples step by step, then solve problems yourself and get graded, specific feedback on your own work.
Who is ChemWhiz for?
Anyone taking or preparing for a first course in chemistry: college general chemistry students, AP and honors high school students, pre-med and pre-nursing students brushing up for exams, and self-learners who want a structured path instead of scattered videos. The curriculum follows the standard general chemistry sequence, so it lines up naturally with most textbooks and courses.
What can I use for free?
A lot. Every lesson, worked example, study guide, and reference table, the interactive periodic table, and all the calculators are free to browse. A free account lets you explore the full practice library too. What needs a subscription is the graded part: submitting answers for grading and getting AI explanations on worked-example steps.
What happens when I submit an answer?
You get a clear verdict on your answer: correct, partially correct, or incorrect. You also get the complete worked solution with every step laid out, so you can compare your approach against a correct one. When a useful diagnosis is available, ChemWhiz adds targeted notes about what to notice, what to fix, and what to do next. Your attempt history is saved per problem, so you can revise your answer, resubmit, and watch your progress build topic by topic.
How does ChemWhiz know whether my answer is right?
ChemWhiz grades with a proprietary grading engine built specifically for chemistry and refined against thousands of real problems and answers. It understands answers the way a chemistry instructor does: correct chemistry written in a different but equivalent form still counts, and wrong chemistry does not get credit for looking plausible. We keep the internals to ourselves, but the standard is simple: the feedback has to be dependable enough to learn from, every time.
How is your AI different from ChatGPT or other generic AI?
Focus and grounding. Generic chatbots are notorious for confidently getting chemistry wrong, and nothing in them checks the work. ChemWhiz’s AI operates inside a curriculum written and reviewed by a chemistry PhD, anchored to the exact worked example and step you are studying, so its help is specific rather than a generic essay. And the grading behind it has been tested against thousands of real answers, so your grade is not riding on chatbot improvisation. Chemistry is all we do.
Is the AI perfect?
No, and we won’t pretend otherwise. AI can occasionally miss a nuance or phrase something imperfectly, so treat it as a sharp study partner rather than an oracle. What keeps it trustworthy in practice: it works from expert-written chemistry instead of improvising, the grading has been tested against thousands of real examples, and when an AI action fails outright you are not charged for it. It also keeps getting better. Not a magic bullet, but a genuinely helpful one.
How does pricing work? Why isn’t everything free?
Browsing is free: every topic, lesson, worked example, guide, reference table, and calculator. Graded practice and AI help run on neurons, ChemWhiz’s in-app currency, because each graded submission and AI response costs real money to produce. A subscription includes a monthly allowance of neurons that comfortably covers regular studying, and you spend them only on the actions you actually use. No ads, nothing hidden, and the current price is always shown on the billing page.
What if an AI response fails or looks off?
If an AI action fails, you are not charged: the neurons come back automatically. If a response goes through but the chemistry looks off, every problem page has a report button; flagged responses get reviewed and real issues get fixed. We would rather earn your trust than defend a mistake.
What is the refund policy?
ChemWhiz generally does not offer discretionary refunds for subscription payments or neuron packs. The reason is simple economics, not fine print: running the platform costs real money (AI computation, infrastructure, and payment-processing fees that processors keep even when a charge is reversed), and exactly these purchases cover those costs, so refunding them would mean the app pays twice. This does not limit any refund required by law, and our payment provider may issue refunds under its own buyer terms. Your protections still stand: a failed AI action restores its neurons automatically, cancelling never erases the neuron balance you already own, and you keep paid access through the end of any period you paid for. Can I trust the chemistry?
Yes, and here is what that rests on. The curriculum was written and reviewed by a chemistry PhD who taught the subject for over a decade, building on a 500-page college workbook developed and refined in real classrooms. Some material is adapted from trusted open educational resources and held to the same standard for accuracy. Presentation matters too: formulas, equations, subscripts, and notation render the way real chemistry should look, so you learn it correctly the first time.
Do I need a credit card to start?
No. Creating an account is free and takes an email address, or one click with Google. You only enter payment details if you decide to subscribe, and you can cancel at any time; your access runs through the end of the paid period.
Is ChemWhiz a replacement for a human tutor or teacher?
Honestly, no. A great teacher is irreplaceable, and we are not trying to replace one. What ChemWhiz adds is what a classroom can’t: unlimited patience at 2 a.m., instant grading on every attempt, and focused help on the exact step you got stuck on, at a small fraction of private tutoring rates.
